2025 Spring Green

On March 22nd, from 1:30-3:30pm at Brentwood-Darlington Community Center, attendees can recycle electronics, tires, and more for free. Activities include a bike tune-up, plant swap, and educational workshops on solar energy and sustainability. Donations support local initiatives. Various organizations will participate to promote environmental awareness and resilience.

COME TO DIVERT ELECTRONIC (and other) WASTE… STAY TO HELP THE NATURAL WORLD!

  • Recycle electronics, tires, styrofoam, medications, medical sharps, household batteries and CFL bulbs
  • Leave with seeds and plants
  • Tune up your bike
  • Learn about solar power, re-use and repair, and other ways to keep our planet, our neighborhood and our homes green and resilient!

SUGGESTED DONATIONS:

  • Electronics – $5 per item, $10 per bike-load, $40 per car-load, $50 per truck, van or trailer-load
  • Bike tune-up – $5
  • Tires – $5 per tire
  • Styrofoam Recyling Info – $5-10 depending on amount
    Other donations accepted to benefit Brentwood-Darlington Neighborhood Association and to keep this event happening.

Bicycle Maintenance Workshop provided by Bikes for Humanity PDX. BFH PDX is also accepting donated bicycles and parts, see donation guidelines.

Bikes For Humanity PDX (B4HPDX) is a 501c3 non-profit bike shop and school.
Our mission is to substantially increase public access to affordable and safe
bicycles while empowering self-sufficiency in bicycle maintenance and commute.

Solar Oregon will be hosting an information table, presentation at 1:30pm. Solar Oregon is a not-for-profit organization, whose mission is: To be a bold voice and trusted educational resource to empower all individuals and communities statewide to adopt solar energy.  This is your chance to learn about residential solar power without a sales pitch.  Find more information.

Waste-Free Advocates will be present with information and goodies.

Portland Fruit Tree Project will be with us talking about how to get more fruit trees into your garden.

Portland Parks & Recreation’s Produce for People (PFP) program, which sprouted in 1995 to combat Portland’s high poverty rate, is a grassroots effort in which community gardeners turn their ability to produce food into an opportunity to fulfill the needs of the hungry. In concert with hunger relief agencies, the program seeks to provide Portland’s emergency food shelters with fresh, nutritious, organic, locally grown food.

Brentwood-Darlington Community Gardens will be hosting a free seed and plant swap!

Portland Community Gardens have provided Portlanders with opportunities for improved physical and social well-being since 1975. There are 60 PP&R Community Gardens located throughout Portland, developed and operated by volunteers and Bureau staff, and offering a variety of activities.

MakeWith Hardware & Learning Center is a queer-owned learning center dedicated to building resilience skills in Portland and beyond. We provide beginner-friendly workshops on home maintenance, repair, emergency preparedness and other self-sufficiency skills. MakeWith aims to increase our collective capabilities to adapt to shifting environmental and economic circumstances especially for women, queer/trans and BIPOC learners.

Brentwood-Darlington’s Neighborhood Emergency Team (NET) will provide useful information and supplies for emergency preparation, as well as info about our neighborhood’s NET and the BEECN (Basic Earthquake Emergency Communication Nodes) program.

Spring Green History

Spring Green was started in 2019 by Tina Biornstad-Szafranski, neighborhood activist and guardian of all things green.
