January 2018 Meeting Recap – Senator Rod Monroe

Thank you to everyone who made it to our January 4th, 2018 meeting with special guest Senator Rod Monroe!  We were excited to have so many of our neighbors join us, as well as visitors from Portland Tenants United. We were thrilled to provide simultaneous Spanish translation at this meeting, and will continue to do so at future meetings.  Please help us spread the word!  We also have posters of upcoming meetings translated in Spanish, if you would like to help print and distribute.

At the beginning of our meeting we had community announcements from:

  • Carol Uhte from Multnomah County Library shared information on Holgate and Woodstock events.
  • Lane PTA is still collecting cans and bottles as well as hosting their 3rd annual School Beautification Party on April 21st, 9:00AM-12:00PM.  They also need volunteers for the PPS Clothing Closet on February 22nd.
  • Brentwood-Darlington Community Watch gave an update on pursuing “No Camping” park signage in conjunction with ONI.  They are also working on zombie house outreach and following up on the issues surrounding the corner of SE Flavel/SE 82nd (7-11, DaRon and Del Rancho motels).  To speak with 7-11 regarding this location, call 800-255-0711 or email 7-11custrel@7-11.com.

Following Community Announcements, Senator Rod Monroe spoke regarding his last session as well as some personal history of advocacy serving on various advisory boards.  He talked about the work during the last legislative session and then took questions from the audience.  Thanks to board member, Derek Covey, for taking two videos of that portion of this meeting.

During the second half, board members voted to approve the 2017-2018 Communications Funds Budget.

Official meeting minutes will be available in the next month or two, as they are approved by the board.
