Memorial Stone for Dick and Opal Hazeltine

Brentwood-Darlington Neighborhood Association has placed a memorial stone in Hazeltine Park, commemorating Opal’s Garden and honoring Dick and Opal Hazeltine.  The Hazeltine’s spent decades volunteering in the neighborhood and are responsible for many of the community spaces we enjoy today.  We encourage everyone to visit Hazeltine Park and spend a moment at Opal’s Garden, climb the logs in the sustainable nature patch, and enjoy the space the neighborhood built together.

Thank you to local business Affordable Family Memorials for creating and placing this beautiful stone.  Thank you to the 2019-20 BDNA Board for approving funding for this stone.

Attention, parents! Brentwood-Darlington Neighborhood Association will be offering a supervised activity for kids in the adjacent room! BDNA volunteers will supervise an all-ages movie for children to enjoy while parents join the Play + Skate discussion.

Portland Parks & Recreation and the Errol Heights Park project team invites neighbors to attend an upcoming public meeting to review concepts and designs for the Play and Skate elements of the park.

This meeting is an opportunity for the design team at Mayer/Reed to share their initial concepts and designs for these two important elements of the park, and get valuable feedback and suggestions from the public to ensure that the park can best meet the needs of the Brentwood-Darlington community.

Specifically, we would like to discuss:
· Are the play features inclusive of children of all abilities?
· Does the skate feature meet the needs various users including, younger/ inexperienced skaters, those with wheelchairs, scooters and/ or BMX bikes?

Bring your friends, families, neighbors or anyone else who is interested in the future of Errol Heights park!  Agenda below.

The Errol Heights Park Community Advisory Committee met Wednesday, January 9, 2019.  This was the seventh meeting of the Errol Heights Park’s Community Advisory Committee. We have a design for Errol Heights Park and we want to know what you think!

If you weren’t able to make it to the open house on December 1, you still have time to take our online survey and share your thoughts on the recommended design for the Park.

Portland Parks and Recreation has dedicated $12.7 million to improving the 16-acre Errol Heights Park. As part of the design phase we received hundreds of comments about what makes Errol Heights Park special and the types of activities people would like to do there in the future.The proposed design is based on that feedback.

Hazeltine Park Ribbon Cutting and Planting Event a Huge Success!

On Saturday, December 1st, Dick Hazeltine cut the ribbon on his namesake park with Portland Parks and Recreation Project Manager Eric Rosewall.

Volunteers from the Johnson Creek Watershed, Scout Pack 523, Brentwood-Darlington Neighborhood Association, and more worked through the rainy morning to beautify this community space.

A memorial tree to Dick’s late wife, Opal Hazeltine, who was instrumental in the park’s formation, was planted in approximately the spot her desk occupied when the space was home to the community policing building.

Longtime neighbor and BDNA board member, Malcolm Hancock, presented Dick Hazeltine with a model swing set for the park.

Be sure to visit Hazeltine Park’s completed playscape area and join us in the spring to finish the planting!

PPR Seeks to Close Road for Errol Heights Park

Portland Parks and Recreation (PPR) is seeking to close SE Tenino Court (from SE Tenino Court at SE Tenino Drive to SE Tenino Court at the east end of the Community Garden – see yellow line in aerial photo below) through the Portland Bureau of Transportation.

We have received hundreds of comments about what makes Errol Heights Park special and the types of activities people would like to do there in the future. Based on that feedback, we now have a proposed design for the park.

Join us for this family-friendly, interactive event to help us review and refine the final recommended design.

Can’t make the open house? Take the online survey, open Dec. 1 – 16.

Over 100 people shared their ideas for park programming at the October open house. You can see what they said in our outreach summary on the project website.
